What does this calculator do?

The mobile load calculator Pakistan works out the FBR taxes on prepaid mobile recharge: the 19.5% federal excise duty (FED) and the advance income tax charged on load under specific revenue provisions. Enter your recharge (load) amount - the calculator instantly shows the tax that stays with the cellular company and the airtime you actually receive.

If you recharge Rs 500, you do not get Rs 500 of airtime - part is prepaid taxes. The rules have bounced between different federal excise duty treatments in recent budgets, so being able to read the current 2025-26 position is genuinely useful for any mobile user.

How to use it

Enter the recharge amount and the calculator displays the split: airtime credited, tax component, and the rate applied. Toggle a setting to see the 2025 position (no general FED on prepaid mobile calls) versus the current regime for postpaid bills where 19.5% applies.

  • Enter the recharge amount in rupees.
  • Immediately see the tax and the usable credit.
  • Use the toggle to understand pre-2025 and 2025-26 differences.

How the calculation works

Mobile phone services in Pakistan are subject to Federal Excise Duty at 19.5% of the call value, currently levied on the airtime (recharge) from the telecom operators. The effective rate has been settled at the higher of rupee-denominated per texts or as a percentage - for 2025-26, FED applies again on mobile services through a percentage charge at 19.5%, reduced from 19.5 plus earlier thresholds.

In addition to FED, a withholding tax advance of approximately 10%-12.5% is collected on recharges and treated as minimum tax/advance against your income tax. The calculator shows the sum of the duties: the same answer you would get from a prepaid telecom dashboard.

  • The recharge value is separated into airtime service value.
  • The Federal Excise tax at 19.5% is added on the service.
  • The telecom collects an advance income tax component from the paid amount.

Worked example

If you recharge Rs 1,000 in 2025-26, with a total 25% split between FED and advance CT, you pay 250 rupees in taxes and get about 750 rupees of actual call credit. This matches what you see in SMS alerts after loading any prepaid SIM in Pakistan today.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Believing the tax appears only after the recharge - the taxes are deducted before the balance is credited.
  • Using pre-2025 rates - the Federal Excise Schedule changed repeatedly; always verify the current position.
  • Not claiming the advance tax in your return - the advance mobile tax is adjustable for filers.
